SUMMARY:2026 Village Games
DESCRIPTION:Join for a fun\, lighthearted afternoon celebrating the real-life moments of parenthood. The Village Games turns everyday parenting tasks into friendly challenges—think finding the missing baby sock\, setting up a Pack ’n Play\, and other moments made playful. Parents can compete on their own or with a partner — however you want to play. You don’t need to have a baby in the newborn phase to join in. Whether you’re preparing for diapers\, long past them\, or somewhere in between\, come test your skills. Pregnant folks are especially welcome — this is a great opportunity to learn from some of the best. We’re not hosting at Kindred Cville this time. The event will be held at Amy Yang Photography\, located at 609 E Market St #110\, Charlottesville\, VA 22903. Parking & Arrival: • Entrance is off the 7th St side of the building at number 209 • You’ll find street parking on 7th Street • Or you can park in the Market Street garage (often with easy weekend availability) This event is free and open to all. In the spirit of community care\, we’re inviting participants to bring a donation for Stepping Stone\, a local organization that supports families. \n  \nFrom learning about doulas\, baby sleep strategies\, pediatric care\, and choosing a daycare or preschool to bonding with baby and postpartum care for moms\, we’ve gathered helpful articles to guide Charlottesville moms and dads through the early months. \n Sign up for our free e-Mag so you won’t miss the latest local events and advice for Charlottesville kids and parents. And when you’re ready to shop or seek services\, check out our wonderful local business partners.

SUMMARY:From Equal To Effective
DESCRIPTION:From Equal to Effective: Reexamining to Way We Fund Public Education \n\nWhat does it really mean for a community to prioritize education? Despite decades of increased investment in public education\, persistent gaps in literacy\, attendance\, and long-term outcomes remain stark—especially for children growing up in poverty. In this Tomorrow Talk\, Price Thomas\, Executive Director of City of Promise\, shares research\, lived experience\, and emerging frameworks that explore how critical communities are in supporting learning beyond the classroom. Rather than offering simple answers\, this conversation examines how education outcomes are shaped by a wide range of social\, economic\, and civic factors—and what that might mean for communities seeking new\, more effective approaches. \n\n\nBuilding on insights from the Education Innovator Summit at the 2025 Tom Tom Festival and a semester-long research project with the UVA College of Arts and Sciences\, Price introduces the community schools model as one lens for understanding education as a shared ecosystem. This model considers how schools\, families\, local government\, and community organizations must align efforts aimed at student and family success—through transportation access\, out-of-school learning\, family engagement\, and other supports that influence how young people can fully participate and engage in school. \n\n\nThe talk will explore how communities make decisions about education priorities and investments\, and how different approaches reflect different assumptions about what helps students succeed. Drawing on data and case studies from other cities\, Price will offer frameworks for thinking about the balance between values\, resources\, and outcomes—inviting participants to reflect on how communities move from intention to implementation. \n\n\nAs with all Tomorrow Talks\, the format is designed to create community dialogue. Attendees will be invited to engage with new ideas\, ask questions\, and consider where they see opportunities for alignment across schools\, neighborhoods\, and local institutions. Whether you are a parent\, educator\, policymaker\, or community member\, the conversation offers a chance to explore how care\, collaboration\, and curiosity might shape the future of education in Charlottesville. \n\n\nRegistration is required. Tickets are offered at GA ($30) or Scholarship ($15) prices.

SUMMARY:Multiple Choice
DESCRIPTION:For decades\, the American education system has subscribed to the “college-for-all” ideology\, prioritizing four-year degrees while often overlooking the value of vocational training and career-based learning. In an era of Multiple Choice educational paths\, the Emil Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center\, a pioneering vocational school in Winchester\, Virginia\, flips this script by offering a bold\, integrated approach that treats career-based learning and traditional academics as equally essential paths to success. \nIn this inspiring documentary\, Superintendent Dr. Jason Van Heukelum\, along with the school’s students and faculty\, give a firsthand look at how hands-on\, real-world experience–centered learning models can prepare young people for both college and professional careers\, and the transformative impact that rethinking education can have on students\, their communities\, and the local economy amidst Multiple Choice options. \nDiscussion with director Charles Haine and executive producer Ted Dintersmith\, and film subjects Jason Van Heukelum\, Liz Imoh\, and Marie Imoh. Moderated by Rodney Jordan (VA School Boards Association). \nCharlottesvilleFamily connects you with what matters most! In addition to this\, thinking about Multiple Choice paths is essential. From education resources and school guides to family health advice and seasonal activities in and around Cville\, we cover it all.
