SUMMARY:Little Nature Explorers
DESCRIPTION:Little Nature Explorers is a weekly outdoor program created for young children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers. This free event takes place every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the beautiful setting of the Garden. It combines early childhood learning with the magic of nature\, offering a fresh experience each week. \nEach session features a new topic that includes story time\, hands-on art\, and outdoor discovery. Through movement\, creativity\, and close observation\, children explore the natural world in ways that are both educational and fun. The program encourages curiosity\, builds sensory awareness\, and fosters early connections to plants\, animals\, and the seasons. \nThis week’s exciting theme is Spiders – Their fascinating webs\, behaviors\, and role in nature. \nThe series runs from September 23rd through November 4th\, weather permitting. The program will be canceled only in cases of thunder or high winds. Rain won’t stop the adventure—just bring a coat and boots! \nAlthough walk-ins are welcome\, we recommend registering by emailing programs@piedmontgarden.org. Registration ensures you’ll receive reminders and updates. \nExplore helpful educational resources in our blogs for Cville families—from how to identify your child’s learning style to ways parents can support homework success to navigating college admissions. SUMMARY:Scottsville July 4th Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The town of Scottsville\, which is located just south of Charlottesville\, has a long history of holding parades\, and its annual “Fourth of July Parade” down Main Street is a great example of small town charm. With the parade in the morning\, music\, food\, and games in the afternoon\, and fireworks over the James River in the evening\, there will be a strong sense of small-town warmth and “slice of Americana” throughout the entire event. \n  \nReady for summertime adventures? SUMMARY:Little Naturalists
DESCRIPTION:Ivy Creek Natural Area Introduce your three- to five-year-old to nature! Trained guides explore topics such as food chains\, hibernation\, how trees grow and more with three- to five-year-olds and their accompanying adults. The program starts indoors for 20-30 minutes where the children engage with the guides through reading nature centered books and doing a hands-on activity related to the learning in the book. This is followed with a short hike on one of the ICNA trails. Little Naturalists meet  on the second Mondays\, fourth Thursdays\, and third Saturdays of every month. Gatherings are held from 10:00 to 11:30 am. We prefer that people preregister for these programs. The link to register for the next third Saturday is here.  Siblings are also welcome to attend. SUMMARY:Madison County Fair
DESCRIPTION:County fairs bring out the best in everyone. County fairs usually attract a slower-moving crowd and individuals who like a leisurely pace. This is not a reference to quantitative speed and pace\, but rather an attitude of little is more and taking time to appreciate the little things. When visiting a county fair\, try to be present in the moment. Stop by to see the baby animals\, talk to the food vendors about how long they’ve been making their distinctive dishes\, watch the shows\, and say hello to everyone you see. At the Madison County Fair there is an evening dedicated to old-fashioned games like tug of war\, a cornhole tournament and a kids night filled with wacky fun like donkey races. The big draw events include a demolition derby\, cowgirl circus and a bull riding rodeo. \nFind out about more Virginia County Fairs to Visit This Summer \nCheck out our guide to summer festivals in around Charlottesville\, as well as the best water parks in Virginia.
