SUMMARY:Studio to Gallery: Technical Skills for Presentation & Transport
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on\, practical session covers essential technical skills that help artists present their work professionally and safely. Participants will gain a better understanding of how preparation and presentation impact how work is received by galleries\, curators\, and jurors. \nTopics include:\n– Photographing artwork for documentation and submissions\n– Basic lighting and composition tips using accessible tools\n– Properly attaching hanging hardware\n– Packing and wrapping artwork for safe transport and storage\n– Best practices for labeling and inventory \nThis session will be led by two experienced professionals who bring both creative and practical expertise to the workshop. Together\, Evans and Brown provide a well-rounded learning experience designed to give participants both the visual and logistical skills needed to present their work with confidence. \nThe workshop is available at $40 SSG members / $50 non-members. This program is designed for emerging and mid-career artists seeking to strengthen their professional practice\, though artists at all stages are welcome. \nThis is an in-person workshop held at Second Street Gallery.\nSecure your spot and register now! \nPlease note: All workshop fees are non-refundable. SUMMARY:Farm Animal Day
DESCRIPTION:Farm Animal Day is a chance to peek behind the scenes at a working farm and visit our farm animals up close (including a few baby ones!) This year expect cattle\, pigs\, chickens\, baby chicks and some special guests from Slate Ochre Farmstead! Our llama neighbors will be back this year and Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA! \nThe Barn Store will be open starting at 9am and local food vendors will be on site. Our walking trails will also be open for the season! \nFood Vendors: BBQ U and Taiga Pura Vida coffee \nImportant safety notes about Farm Animal Day: \nPlease leave your dogs and pets at home today! Our guardian dogs will be working closer to the barn due to the event\, and it helps us keep things simple. \nPlease be aware all our animal fencing is electrified. \nBecause this is a working farm\, we don’t allow touching the animals or entering the fenced enclosures. We want to keep all of our babies safe\, including yours! \nWe will be taking precautions against avian flu: if you have backyard chickens\, we will ask that you remain at a distance from our birds for risk mitigation.

SUMMARY:Walk For Peace at New Musical Park
DESCRIPTION:The Community of Peace in Louisa (CPL) today announced the launch of an inspirational project to transform their 250 acres of historic Louisa forest into a beautiful Children and Family Musical Park Sanctuary. The project will be officially introduced to the public during the “Walk for Peace” event on Saturday\, March 28th\, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. \nThe upcoming walk\, inspired by the Buddhist monk’s historic Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington\, D.C.\, serves as a “live showcase” for the land’s potential as a public space that serves the families of Louisa\, VA and beyond. \n“We aren’t just building a park; we are building a sanctuary of beauty and peace for Louisa families\,” says Br. Stefan Andre Waligur\, Founder of the Community of Peace. “This walk is the first time the public can see the blueprint in action—from our reflective forest ‘Peace Stations’ to the exact site where our musical sanctuary will stand. In a time when social tensions and conflict are on the rise\, this little oasis of peace is good medicine for mind\, heart\, and body.” \nThe March 28th Walk for Peace will feature: \n\nThe Musical Concept: A first look at the renderings for the Children’s Musical Park.\nThe Peace Trail: A series of artistic “birdhouse” frames featuring reflective peacemaking prompts.\nDonkey Companions: Interactive trail walks with the sanctuary’s guest donkeys.\nCommunity Rituals: Singing\, drumming\, dancing\, and the building of a stone cairn\, followed by a closing Cacao Ceremony.
