SUMMARY:Garden Glow at Maymont
DESCRIPTION:Step into a glowing world of color at Garden Glow presented by Kroger — where light and a bit of magic take over Maymont after dark. Whether you’re out for a fun family night or a date with your favorite plus-one\, Garden Glow is the perfect way to light up your evening. \n\nStroll down the Woodland Trail to discover L’Envol\, a flock of illuminated birds caught mid-flight among the trees. Opening Times Vary\, (Closed Mondays\, last entry at 9pm) \n\n\nNEW THIS YEAR: Glow Up!\nA Special Night to Support Maymont\, October 16\nMaymont supporters can enjoy a one-of-a-kind Garden Glow experience. Perfect for entertaining clients\, employees or an extended group of family and friends. Glow Up includes a VIP swag bag\, photo ops\, drink vouchers and light bites\, plus live entertainment like taiko drummers and light-up stilt walkers! We’ve got plenty of winter fun for families to explore with seasonal day trips\, local holiday light displays\, and our favorite Christmas events in Charlottesville. If you need an indoor activity\, we’ve got nine local adventures for winter break. And don’t miss our guide to Charlottesville’s Christmas tree farms! \nDon’t miss a thing—sign up for our free CharlottesvilleFamily e-Mag for weekly event highlights and family fun ideas. SUMMARY:Farm Animal Day
DESCRIPTION:Farm Animal Day is a chance to peek behind the scenes at a working farm and visit our farm animals up close (including a few baby ones!) This year expect cattle\, pigs\, chickens\, baby chicks and some special guests from Slate Ochre Farmstead! Our llama neighbors will be back this year and Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA! \nThe Barn Store will be open starting at 9am and local food vendors will be on site. Our walking trails will also be open for the season! \nFood Vendors: BBQ U and Taiga Pura Vida coffee \nImportant safety notes about Farm Animal Day: \nPlease leave your dogs and pets at home today! Our guardian dogs will be working closer to the barn due to the event\, and it helps us keep things simple. \nPlease be aware all our animal fencing is electrified. \nBecause this is a working farm\, we don’t allow touching the animals or entering the fenced enclosures. We want to keep all of our babies safe\, including yours! \nWe will be taking precautions against avian flu: if you have backyard chickens\, we will ask that you remain at a distance from our birds for risk mitigation.

SUMMARY:Toddler Time
DESCRIPTION:Join the Frontier Culture Museum this January\, February\, and March for Toddler Time! Each Toddler Time at the Frontier Culture Museum will include a story time. Then\, there will also be a hands-on historical activity and a craft to keep. \nJanuary 10\, 2026: Our first Toddler Time will be focused on historical music\, instruments\, and rhythms. Our small friends will have the opportunity to see\, touch\, and hear historical instruments. They will also have the chance to make and play their own!  *Please be advised that this program will be loud and may affect friends who are sensitive to noise. \nJanuary 24\, 2026: Our second Toddler Time will be focused on historical games. Next\, enjoy games from different cultures and learn how old some of the games we still play today are. \nFebruary 14\, 2026: Our third Toddler Time will be focused on historical cooking\, recipes\, and food. Your child will have the chance to see and feel historical cookware. They can make a historical recipe to bake at home! \nFebruary 28\, 2026: Our fourth Toddler Time will be focused on chores and the roles children played in the past. Sweeping\, carrying water\, and helping around the house were a big part of life. \nMarch 7\, 2026: Our fifth Toddler Time will be focused on plants and how important a kitchen garden was to all of the cultures we talk about. Your child will get to see\, touch\, and smell different herbs and plants. They can even plant their own to take home! \nMarch 21\, 2026: Our final Toddler Time will be focused on the animals of the Frontier Culture Museum! Your child will have the opportunity to meet some of the critters who make their home at the FCM. They will make a puppet in honor of their favorite new friend. \nRecommended Age \nToddler Time is designed for children ages 18 months to 4 years. Activities are tailored to this age group to ensure a safe\, engaging\, and developmentally appropriate experience. \nParent Participation \nBecause space is limited\, we ask that one parent accompany every two children. This helps us welcome as many toddlers as possible while keeping the environment comfortable and enjoyable for all. \nEach week there will be two sessions\, one at 10:00 AM and one at 11:00 AM. The cost per child is $3\, and adults are $5 and includes admission into the museum after the program. The toddler time program is included in the annual pass. \n  \nExplore helpful educational resources in our blogs for Cville families—from how to identify your child’s learning style to ways parents can support homework success to navigating college admissions. And don’t forget to keep up with our local school news for Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Sign up for our free CharlottesvilleFamily e-Mag so you’ll receive weekly or monthly (you choose!) family news and events right in your inbox. It combines early childhood learning with the magic of nature\, offering a fresh experience each week. \nEach session features a new topic that includes story time\, hands-on art\, and outdoor discovery. Through movement\, creativity\, and close observation\, children explore the natural world in ways that are both educational and fun. The program encourages curiosity\, builds sensory awareness\, and fosters early connections to plants\, animals\, and the seasons. \nThis week’s exciting theme is Spiders – Their fascinating webs\, behaviors\, and role in nature. \nThe series runs from September 23rd through November 4th\, weather permitting. The program will be canceled only in cases of thunder or high winds. Rain won’t stop the adventure—just bring a coat and boots! \nAlthough walk-ins are welcome\, we recommend registering by emailing programs@piedmontgarden.org. Registration ensures you’ll receive reminders and updates. \nExplore helpful educational resources in our blogs for Cville families—from how to identify your child’s learning style to ways parents can support homework success to navigating college admissions. And don’t forget to keep up with our local school news for Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Sign up for our free CharlottesvilleFamily e-Mag so you’ll receive weekly or monthly (you choose!) family news and events right in your inbox. Plus\, meet the amazing local businesses and partners who help families thrive in our community.

SUMMARY:Studio to Gallery: Technical Skills for Presentation & Transport
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on\, practical session covers essential technical skills that help artists present their work professionally and safely. Participants will gain a better understanding of how preparation and presentation impact how work is received by galleries\, curators\, and jurors. \nTopics include:\n– Photographing artwork for documentation and submissions\n– Basic lighting and composition tips using accessible tools\n– Properly attaching hanging hardware\n– Packing and wrapping artwork for safe transport and storage\n– Best practices for labeling and inventory \nThis session will be led by two experienced professionals who bring both creative and practical expertise to the workshop.
