Schools and students are busy for the 2025-2026 school year! Here are some news and insights for the Albemarle County Public School system for the month of September.

Upcoming ACPS Meetings

September 30, 2025, 6:00 pm

There will be a Community Information Session on generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), held virtually.

October 7, 2025, 6:30 pm

There will be a meeting of the Special Education Advisory Committee at the County Office Building.

October 8, 2025, 4:30 pm

There will be a meeting of the Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability in the Piedmont Conference Room (Building Services).

October 9, 2025, 6:30 pm

There will be a regular meeting of the School Board in the Lane Auditorium of the County Office Building.

October 23, 2025, 6:30 pm

There will be a regular School Board work session in the Lane Auditorium of the County Office Building.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Schools will hold parent conferences throughout October. These conferences allow parents to check in with their students’ teachers and discuss goals and plans for the school year. You can find the date(s) for your school’s conferences on the Important Dates webpage, or talk directly to your child’s teacher if you haven’t received scheduling information.

Arts in Education Week at ACPS

September 15-19 was Arts in Education Week, celebrating the many ways that the arts enrich the learning experience and inspire creativity. Students all around Albemarle County spent the week exploring visual arts, music, poetry, and theatre. Learn more about what they experienced and created here!

School Resource Officers in Albemarle County Schools

ACPS has expanded its school resource officer (SRO) program. All three high schools now have a dedicated police officer, and a fourth floating officer will support middle schools or fill in as needed in high schools. NextGen Skilled Trades Day

NextGen Skilled Trades Day is a free, hands-on community event that is open to all but particularly directed toward high school students and their parents. The day offers an introduction to the high-demand world of skilled trades, including building, engineering, manufacturing, and more. Students and parents will be able to explore, ask questions, and learn more about career opportunities after high school.
