Free Short-Term Housing for Families
LilyPads Housing provides free, short-term housing in volunteer host homes for families and caregivers of patients undergoing treatment at UVA Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. We also provide families with additional holistic supports such as sibling activities, meals, groceries, transportation, toiletries, and self-care items. LilyPads Housing serves families regardless of age, diagnosis, race, ethnicity, citizenship, religion, income level, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability.
Our host family/home made the most stressful week of my life much less stressful. They were wonderful. And it was nice not to be in a hotel and to have interaction with our host and her kids. It kept my spirit up during a very emotionally exhausting week.
Our daughter has a heart condition that requires a fairly complex surgery at UVA and will be admitted to the hospital for several weeks. LilyPads Housing was gracious, professional, and prompt in locating us a place to stay on such short notice. A humbling experience and a true testament to generous human beings desiring to help others in need, away from home, or whatever the situation entails.
We had twins born prematurely at 3 pounds. K was released from Roanoke NICU after 11 days and has been doing great since. Sweet L was transferred to UVA. We are very thankful to have been given such a nice place to stay during this time. It was a blessing to be here to take care of our daughter every day since we live so far away. We can’t say how thankful we are to be able to care for both our girls so well during this time and it would not have been possible without LilyPads.
