5 Tips for Visiting a Virginia Flower Farm

1. Time Your Visit Wisely

Virginia flower farms bloom on different schedules depending on the season and type of flower. Spring is prime time for tulips and daffodils, while summer brings sunflowers, zinnias, and lavender, and late summer into fall often means dahlias and wildflowers. Check the farm’s website or social media before your visit to ensure peak bloom.

2. Dress for the Outdoors

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting a little muddy, especially after rain. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential and pack a water bottle.

3. Teach Kids to Be Gentle Gardeners

Kids need a little guidance to avoid stepping on stems or pulling on flowers too roughly. It’s a great chance to teach gentle hands, observation skills, and flower care basics.

Floral Workshops

Many of Virginia’s beautiful flower farms, vineyards, and wineries offer fun workshops to bring out your inner florist! Check out each venue’s unique offerings for bouquet arranging or dried flower crafts, or head to Pippin Hill for a floral watercolor class.
