Celebrate A Child’s Birthday in Style with A Pony-Inspired Party Theme and Décor!

When my little one turned two, we had a pony-themed birthday party at their grandparent’s house. The “centerpiece” of the party (other than my little one, of course!) was this amazing pink pony cake made by my friend Marion. She was so kind to lend her amazing talents to our pony themed party! We had our party at a family home but this could be help at one of the favorite party places around town.

A Show-Stopping Birthday Cake with Ruffled Decorations

I’d recently become obsessed with ruffled cake decorations and asked Marion if she could do something similar on this cake. She DID IT!!! And how about those tiny horseshoes with the “stitching.” I little pony sitting on top of the cake is adorable, and it’s all so lovely and everything I had hoped for my little angel’s second birthday cake. The pony even has a tiny pink flower in its mane! You could also make this with my ice cream cake recipe if you prefer.

DIY Party Decor and Creative Pony Pops

I made a homemade banner with some burlap and some scraps of fabric that I had in my stash. They were very simple and cute. I ordered 60 balloons, which is about the simplest party decoration there is. Fairly low cost but a big impact. Another DIY that I did for the party was the chocolate pony party pops using a horse head pop candy mold.

Stick Ponies Make the Party Gallop

One of the highlights of the party to me was seeing my daughter run around with a stick pony saying “ye-ha.” I loved it! Since it was 30 degrees outside at the time, there was no way we were going to have real pony rides, so I ordered these stick horses online. They were fantastic, and each child got to take home the horse of their choice—pink, brown or black. I made little tags for each child to mark their pony, and I didn’t realize this when I ordered the horses, but you can press a button on the ear and it makes a “clippity-clop” sound and whinnies.

Pony-Themed Coloring Books and Sweet Treats

Using clipart allowed me to make one more party favor for the kids to take home—the sweet little pony-themed coloring books. I picked up packs of crayons to complete this set.

My sweet mother-in-law made tons of tasty treats for us all to munch on, including a “make your own chocolate strawberry” dipping station, delicious olive & cream cheese and hummus dips, and salsa and queso dip. But it was the giant bowl of popcorn that most delighted my daughter. She steadily munched on it all afternoon.
